As promised, I’ve been going back through the three earliest stained glass pieces and modifying them to fit more seamlessly into the overall look of the Stained Class series. When they’re all completed, I’ll be making one large piece that contains all of the windows in a wall, for those who have been asking for that.

I’ll also be submitting it to Blizzard art, so wish me luck! I was incredibly honored to win the Blizzard Comic Contest with The Orc Detective, and am hoping lightning will strike twice.

I hate to even address this, but as I was working on the new Mage, it came to my attention that my Stained Class pieces had been stolen by an individual who was claiming the work as their own.

The person was charging people for backgrounds featuring my stained glass pieces and those from wonderfully talented artist (and employee of Blizzard) Howard Lyon. They were even offering ‘personalized commissions’, though how they intended to deliver on such a promise- if they ever intended to do so- is a mystery. The thief in question even contacted me to see if I would modify one of my pieces because, I later learned, someone had ‘commissioned’ them to make the change.

If you want to purchase artwork, particularly commissions, please do be extremely careful. An artist will work with you every step of the way and be transparent about the entire process. Ask for references from satisfied customers. Check out their Twitter account and website to see if they look legitimate. When in doubt, ask other artists in the community.

I do offer personalized commissions for a fee, but I have never and will never charge for the art on this website. If you see it for sale anywhere else, you can take it from me the seller is a dirty, filthy, disgusting, stinking liar.

After wrapping up all the Stained Class classes, I knew I wanted to go back and re-work the first three (plus the hunter) to fit into the theme that developed a bit later in the process.

Today’s installment is the Priest- near and dear to my heart as it is- in all his or her glory.

I tried to represent the Disc, Holy, and Shadow facets of the finest profession (no slight intended) in the game equally, and am pretty pleased with the results: The ubiquitous Disc bubble, the Holy halos and wide-ranging group heals, the Orbs and darkness of Shadow Priests– plus, of course, our beloved, misguided, and thoroughly unreliable Shadowfiend clinging to his master. I couldn’t resist using my own Disco, Liala, as the model. All in all, it feels thoroughly right (though I understand completely that a BLOOD ELF representation is deepest blasphemy!).

Next up are the reboot versions of the earlier Paladin and Mage classes, and then I’ll have to redo the Hunter (the original of which no one liked, including me). So enjoy these, enjoy those, and enjoy what’s coming next.

Today’s installation of the Stained Class series is the final class to get a window, the Death Knight. Those raised undead warriors of Arthas’ evil plans feature in nearly every account. Who among us doesn’t have a DK hiding in a back pocket, or boldly serving as our main, or jumping in to fill a gap in a raid? Those Veterans of the Third War rise above the rotten fruit and catcalls to prove themselves again and again. To my staunch Death Knight friends, and my own beloved Hardly, /salute.

Now that all the classes are complete, I’ll go back and re-execute the Priest, the Paladin, the Mage and the Hunter to match the style of the later stained glasses.

It’s been a huge amount of fun to create the Stained Class series, but the feedback you’ve all been kind enough to give has been the best part of it for me. Thank you all so much for your continued support, eyeballs, and words of encouragement!

I’ve been messing around lately with a few new artistic styles, and have gotten a great deal of inspiration from Medieval manuscripts and period stained glass pieces. I was so pleased with the way the original Priest piece turned out that I decided to execute all of the Warcraft classes in the same style in a series called ‘Stained Class’.

Today’s installation of the Stained Class series is the long-suffering Warrior. Whether graciously defending our sorry butts from mobs, whipping themselves into a froth of anger on our behalf, or wielding two swords for the price of one, no group would be complete without them. May your Stained Class be as badass as you are, my friends.

The final Stained Class will be the long-overlooked Death Knights, those undead abominations unto Azeroth (how we love them!). After that final class is complete, I’ll go back and re-execute the Priest, the Paladin, the Mage and the Hunter to match the style of the later stained glasses.

Stained Class Gris Gris: Warrior-Theme Wallpaper

Not a real post, just throwing out a little wallpaper action. I was working on the Stained Class Warrior and needed to create a repeating pattern, and ended up with a nifty little repeating sword display. It’ll work for the very largest monitors down to iPods, etc (such is the beauty of the repeating pattern), so enjoy!

PS – No, this doesn’t mean the Warrior is next; I just happened to be messing with it. Go vote in the post below this!

Stained Class Commission: Paladin

Just dropping this in here to keep my own records in order, but also because I liked the way it turned out.

The commissioner, the delightful Asros, requested a Blood Elf Paladin with an Argent Dawn or Argent Crusade theme; after some discussion, we settled on an Icecrown Citadel setting to represent the character’s involvement with the Lich King quests. As the subject was a Holy Pally, I wanted to evoke Beacon of Light with the layout of the bakground, which seemed to work well with the coloring and overall scheme of the piece.

Welcome back to the Stained Class series!

I’ve been messing around lately with a few new artistic styles, and have gotten a great deal of inspiration from Medieval manuscripts and period stained glass pieces. I was so pleased with the way the original Priest piece turned out that I decided to execute all of the Warcraft classes in the same style in a series called ‘Stained Class’.

Today’s installation of the Stained Class series is that master of the ranged attack, the Hunter. With their traps, and arrows, tracking and pets, Hunters are as formidable at PvP as they are in raids and solo questing. I agonized for a long time over which pets to represent- how do you choose one or two out of all the available companions?- and finally came to the conclusion that the very breadth of choice is what makes pet ownership such fun. This Hunter has plenty of available slots.

I struggled, too over whether to create a Troll or Dwarf Hunter. In the end, classicism won out and Ironforge’s finest was called into service. I hope my many Hunter friends enjoy it!

Two items of general note:

(1) I’ve set up an FAQ for the Stained Class series. And yes, it includes the answer to what seems to be everyone’s most burning question: “What set is that character wearing?!”

(2) Several people have emailed me that their comments haven’t been showing up. I promise I’m not deleting them! Please note: If you use the words ‘stained glass’ anywhere in your comment, it gets eaten by a spam filter I set up for the absolutely insane number of stained glass spam comments I was getting.

Today’s installation of the Stained Class series is the elusive Rogue, master of poisons and source of PvP nightmares. It took a while to think of a way to represent this complicated class, but I hope you rogues enjoy it. Now please stop sapping me.

Today’s installation of the Stained Class series is the black-hearted Warlock, master of death and decay (not to mention adorable demons). Representing all three specializations- plus a few key universal talents- was a particular challenge. I hope I’ve done the ‘lock population proud and prevented at least one Life Tap on my healing watch.

Once again, you guys get to choose which one I’ll knock out next. I have tons of ideas for each of the remaining four, and I’m looking forward to tackling the next class.
