Away From Reality Does It Better Than DA: Sunday Morning Funnies Edition

Sunday Morning Funnies at WoW Insider is running a Secret Santa comic exchange. Each cartoonist was assigned another comic to lambaste (or was it laud? I didn’t read the rules too carefully) in his or her own comic style.

The most excellent comic Away From Reality (a weekly read for me) drew Disciplinary Action and did a truly incredible job with Kachunk and Liala.

But you don’t have to take my word for it…

Disciplinary Action Defaces the Daily Blink: Sunday Morning Funnies Edition

Sunday Morning Funnies at WoW Insider is running a Secret Santa comic exchange. Each cartoonist was assigned another comic to lambaste (or was it laud? I didn’t read the rules too carefully) in his or her own comic style.

Disciplinary Action was lucky enough to pick on up the incomparable Daily Blink, and we’ve done our best to treat them in the style to which we hope they’re accustomed.

We’re so sorry.

Harvest Bake-Off Contest Entry

Revive and Rejuvenate hosts an annual Harvest Festival Bake-Off, in which ordinary Azerothian citizens share the recipes nearest and dearest to them, using only ingredients found in WoW. This year’s winner was Vidyala, with her Unconjured Cinnamon Bun Frost Cookies, but I threw my hat into the ring as well.

I didn’t realize most people had put their recipes on their blogs until I saw the wrap-up post, so here’s my own entry:

Bjorn enjoys a battlefield snack before pwning the Horde.

Early-morning strikes put great demands on the battle-hardened veteran. Power bars like [Bellara’s Nutterbar] promise fast nutrition, but leave you lagging halfway to the enemy’s stronghold. The Alterac Breakfast Strata is just the thing to provide long-lasting energy to get your blood pumping and bloodlust racing.

– 8 ounces [Spicy Smoked Sausage], casings removed
– 1 medium [Blindweed], or one large onion
– 1/4 cup chopped [Flame Cap], or sundried tomatoes
[Fishliver Oil] or butter, for the baking dish
– 8 large [Ordinary Eggs]
– 1 cup [Ice Cold Milk]
– 3 leaves of [Mountain Silversage], chopped
[Salt] and [Pepper], to taste
– 1 loaf of high-quality [Tough Hunk of Bread], sliced 1/2 inch thick
– 1 1/2 cups shredded [Alterac Swiss] (mozzarella cheese can be subsituted)

  1. In a large [Cooking Pot] over medium-high heat, cook sausage, stirring occasionally, and breaking up meat with a spoon, until browned, 8 to 10 minutes. Add blindweed or onion; cook. Stirring, until soft, 8 to 10 minutes. Stir in sun-dried tomatoes or flamecaps. Transfer to a [Silver Platter]; let cool until barely warm.
  2. Butter an 8-inch-square [Meatloaf Pan]. In a large [Scrying Bowl], whisk together eggs, milk, sage, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Arrange half the bread in a slightly overlapping layer in bottom of pan. Scatter half the sausage mixture and then half the cheese over the bread. Repeat with remaining bread, sausage, and cheese, pressing firmly. Pour egg mixture over layers. Cover and apply [Deep Freeze] for at least 20 minutes or up to overnight.
  3. Preheat [campfire] to 350 degrees. Bake, uncovered, until puffed and golden and a [Fishbone Toothpick] inserted into center comes out clean, 35 to 45 minutes. Remove with [Murkblood Oven Mitts].
  4. Wipe your mouth and wipe out your enemies.

Holier Than Thou: In Which I Entice You Away From My Blog

Underwear Optional is turning a writer’s block moment into an opportunity to learn more about her fellow bloggers, which I think  is a fantastic idea. She’s verbalizing the very questions I’ve often wondered about my favorite blog authors, and I’m terribly excited to read the results.

The only omission I can see is that she fails to ask what kind of underwear you wear while blogging, but I won’t hold it against an otherwise stellar execution. Head over to her entry and answer the questions in her comments section!

1. What kind of blog are you? (ie. healing, hunter, general wow blog)

2. What kind of information do you usually post about? (ie. raiding, rp, your ingame life, pugs, etc)

3. What type of schedual do you use for your blog postings? (ie. once a week, once per day)

4. How did you decide on your blog’s topic?

5. What do you hope your readers take from your postings?

6. Is there anything else that goes into your blogging behind the scenes?

Eleventh Hour Challenge: Blasted Lands

Posted as my response to the Eleventh Hour Challenge:

Another season, another senseless war.

It seems as soon as I patch them up, the warriors and knights run headlong into adventure and knives and long sticks with pointy bits on the end and back they come for me to wrap them up again. The ceaseless sounds of battle echo in my head when I sit sewing, as I perform my small enchantments over weak blades- when I’m asleep, even! And in the midst of the noise and dust and fearsome clanging, back my companions come, bleeding and broken and battered as if I’d never ministered to them in the first place.

I’ve had it, I tell you!

My mind, I think, had been made up for some time when I saw it: tucked into a hillside in this place called the Blasted Lands. Red rocks basking in the sun around it, buzzards keening in the air, and always, always the sound of distant thunder threatening from the mountains. Even the occasional crystalhide couldn’t deter this feeling. I had come, at long last, home.

Pink Sky At Night, Sailor's Delight

Brother Mahar Ba at Nethergarde Keep has tried to deter me. He says the swirling portal to the south keeps spitting out weird creatures from Outland’s desert, and that the orcs are most pressing in their desire to keep the sanctum sanctorum of their heathen Dreadmaul Hold.

Mahar Has A Lot Of Explaining To Do

He’s told me the local miners are desperate for medical assistance- apparently there’s some trouble down the mine- which does not surprise me. When I attempted to find someone in charge in the Keep, the place appeared to be all but abandoned! Even their cellar was quite empty of provisions. These people need me.

Who's In Charge Here?

At last I might sit upon the rocks and warm my fragile bones in the blinding sunshine this place has in abundance. I might finally practice my sewing without the frantic hustle and bustle Dalaran offers without respite! Perhaps in time I shall even delve deeper into the art of enchantment.

And then when I stumbled upon my home- well, it was as though the Gods had spoken. Just needs a bit of mucking out.

Baby, If You Ever Wondered... Wondered Whatever Became Of Me...

I love this Blasted Lands place.

It is unchanging. It is immune from the vagaries of the hectic world. It is perfect, and here I shall stay.

Cataclysm Zone Changes
Oh, The Humanity!

WE KNOW THAT multiple zones will be destroyed, remade, or otherwise rendered differently once Cataclysm drops on our delicate little noggins. So far as we know, those zones are:

  • Darkshore
  • Azshara
  • Darkwhisper Gorge
  • The Barrens (South)
  • Stonetalon Mountains
  • Thousand Needles
  • Stranglethorn Vale
  • Blasted Lands
  • Felwood
  • Ashenvale
  • Durotar
  • The Barrens (North)
  • Desolace
  • Feralas
  • Eastern Plaguelands
  • Wetlands
  • Westfall
  • Swamp of Sorrows

We’ll miss these areas when they’re gone, and sit around the Inn in Ironforge talking about how newbs these days don’t appreciate the lushness of Thousand Needles and wouldn’t know Auberdine if it fell on their heads.

With that in mind, I’d like to issue an open challenge out there for all bloggers to visit a randomly assigned area and run with it… with a catch. Your character’s mission, should you chose to accept it, will be complicated by a randomly assigned obstacle, tribulation, and/or dilemma facing you in your exploration.

The List of Adversities is is already created, but I’m keeping it under wraps so that everyone’s approach to their tribulation can be a surprise.

THE CHALLENGE: Visit, on your main or a beloved alt, your given zone. Record your thoughts in a visual, verbal, aural, or any other way while referencing your given obstacle (and any successes or failures with which you meet).

THE LOGISTICS: Email me at disciplinaryaction@yahoo.com or post a comment here to get your Zone & Tribulation. Post your results on your blog!

Aaaaand… go!
